Deadly Crash Kills 2 River Valley Students

On Monday, May 30, at 2:13 p.m. the River Valley community lost two members. Juniors Emma Murphy, 17, and Sarah Owens, 17, were killed in a 2-vehicle accident. The two were travelling southbound on I-219 in Bonneville County when a 2004 GMC pickup, driven by Greggory Davis, 39, crossed the median and struck Murphy's 2009 Jeep Liberty. Davis was not transported to the hospital with a possible broken hip, along with two passengers, Rhea Goering, 33, & Steven Wilkinson, 42. Both passengers were not injured.

It is not yet known what caused Davis to cross. An investigation is under way.

Sarah Owens was a bright bubbly girl who was impossible not to love. She always strived to help everyone and always put others before herself. She loved choir, her cat Gio, spending time with her family, and she loved her best friend, Emma.

There wasn't a sport Emma Murphy didn't play. She always wanted to be active and showed her school spirit in everything she did. She loved volleyball especially and had just placed 2nd in state tournaments on May 18. She was a determined young girl who never took no for an answer and never gave up. Her and Sarah will be missed dearly in our community.
